The WILS Experience

A full seminar schedule will be available online as seminar planning progresses!

Friday
  • Sophomore student ambassadors arrive at Carroll University bright and early Friday morning to check in.  After dropping off their things in the dorm, they head straight to the ballroom for icebreakers, our keynote motivational speaker Paul Wesselmann, and team building exercises.
  • After lunch, ambassadors meet with their small groups to discuss their personal perspectives on leadership.  For the rest of the afternoon they interact with panels (with topics that have ranged in the past from immigration to politics to medical ethics) and other students to begin developing their abilities to stand up for their beliefs.
  • After dinner, ambassadors meet again with their small groups to continue their discussion of leadership, then have a blast at the annual WILS Hawaiian Dance!  We have games on hand for students who don't want to dance.  After the dance small groups meet again to reflect on their experience that day and head back to the dorms.
Saturday
  • Ambassadors get another early start Saturday morning.  After breakfast they participate in a group
diversity activity and interact with a diversity panel.  They then embark on their volunteer projects, where they have a chance to improve the southeastern Wisconsin community and also get to meet other ambassadors outside their small groups.

  • After volunteering, small groups touch base before dinner to, if they'd like, prepare talent show skits.  After dinner ambassadors attend their pre-selected interactive workshops and get changed for the talent show.
  • At the talent show, ambassadors show off their own skills, learn more about the WILS Alumni Association, and get a glimpse of the most fashionable new gear from the WILS Store.  After the talent show small groups meet again for a final night of reflections.
Sunday
  • After breakfast Sunday morning, ambassadors participate in a pre-selected Sunday morning religious or secular activity (Catholic Mass, non-denominational Christian service, or a world religions forum).
  • Ambassadors write letters to thank the many volunteers and sponsors who make WILS happen and hear from our closing motivational speaker Darin Eich.  At this time, parents are learning about what their children have experienced at WILS at the Parents' Brunch.
  • Parents and students reunite at our closing ceremonies and students then head for home full of energy, motivation and new and improved leadership skills, as well as having made many new friends.

"WILS pushed me to look at who I was at the core and what really mattered to me in life. Knowing myself better has boosted my confidence and my interpersonal skills and pushed me to branch out and try new experiences. I have traveled the globe and learned how to cultivate relationships with people from around the world."
