WILS - Wisconsin Leadership Seminars Inc. |
What is WILS?
Where there's a WILS there's a wayWe
are excited to announce that Wisconsin Leadership Seminars (WILS) will once
again be holding its annual 3-day leadership seminar for outstanding high school
sophomores across Wisconsin in June 2010. WILS is a local volunteer organization that identifies
outstanding high school sophomores throughout Wisconsin and provides them with
the opportunity and encouragement to recognize their leadership potential. The
guidance counselor or principal at each high school across the state is invited
to nominate one student who already exhibits positive leadership qualities in
their school and community and/or shows leadership potential that may simply
need some added encouragement. The
high-energy weekend consists of team-building activities, motivational speakers
(we’ve built relationships with several spectacular
speakers), community service, a talent show, and panels of key
leaders from various industries, small group discussions, and more.
We encourage leadership development through emphasis on personal
responsibility, volunteerism, increased awareness of social issues, and
open-minded analysis of all sides of an issue when making decisions.
WILS also has an active alumni association that meets throughout the year
to keep the spirit and friendships alive. The
students selected to attend are provided this opportunity as a result of their
demonstration to be responsible citizens in their community and thoughtful
individuals in their school. In our
society, a great deal of attention and media are given to our young adults who
act negatively. WILS is set up to
provide recognition and growth opportunities to students who act positively and
acknowledge that we value their contributions made now and in the future. 2010
marks the 33rd straight year that our program will be offered at no cost to the
schools or students! The annual
seminar is an experience which we’d like to keep open to as many schools as
possible, so we’ve adjusted over the years to ensure that the only cost to the
students for the weekend is their transportation to and from Carroll
University in
Waukesha, just outside of Milwaukee.
